Facts found: Baby’s
Bottom, on port tack, was approaching a (buoys-to-port) windward
mark on the port tack layline. He reached the two-length circle ahead of Diaper Rush coming in on starboard tack. Baby’s Bottom tacked at the mark but his crew
failed to bring the jib over.

Baby’s Bottom was now moving very slowly. Diaper Rush bore away to avoid hitting Baby’s Bottom but was unable to avoid hitting
the mark. Diaper Rush protested under
rule 18.3.

Ruling: As they used
to say in the detective shows on the radio: This is an open-and-shut case. Baby’s
Bottom broke rule 18.3 in that she prevented Diaper
Rush from (cleanly) rounding the mark. The protest is upheld and Baby’s
Bottom is disqualified.
