10.
Facts found: Gotschie
Girl was reaching along the start line on starboard tack in a 10-knot
breeze. If she had held her course, she would have crossed behind Buttered Buns who was starting on port. At the
start signal, the boats were one length apart. Gotschie
Girl was prevented from luffing up to close-hauled because Buttered Buns was in
her way. Gotschie Girl held her
course, missed Buttered Buns, and protested under
rule 10.

Decision:
As
right-of-way boat, Gotschie Girl was bound by rule 16.
By the time she wanted to luff up, it was too late to do so and still allow Buttered
Buns "room to keep clear". Buttered
Buns was not required to anticipate a course alteration by Gotschie
Girl and kept clear as required by the rules. Protest disallowed.
