Ad Nauseam (starboard) and Purrski Doodle (port) are about to round the leeward
mark to starboard at the end of a dead run in 5 knots of breeze. Being a UK
Wayfarer, Purrski Doodle asks for
"water" at the mark, but Ad Nauseam
points out that rule 18 does not apply between
boats on opposite tacks.

Purrski, however, stands his ground (so to speak!) and forces Ad Nauseam to give him room since Ad Nauseam wants to avoid a collision.
As Purrski Doodle gybes around the
mark with a very seamanlike rounding, the boats come very close to
colliding. Ad Nauseam protests under
rules 10 and 18.1(b).
