Sailing History: Started sailing at Emsworth Sailing School in Wayfarers at the age of 12.  After training I carried on helping with boat maintenance and driving rescue boats, eventually becoming an instructor at the age of 16.  The sailing school encouraged my sailing and lent me a Wayfarer to race which I used in my first Nationals in 1968 (approximately as it is so long ago I forget the exact year!!) where I managed a 9th place.  Since that momentous year, I have sailed at National and International level in a number of classes: Fireball, Osprey, Albacore, RS400, B14, 505, Flying Dutchman to name a few.

Sailing History: Started sailing at a small club in Fife, Scotland called Largo Bay Sailing Club and re-joined it three years ago.  I learned to sail in Mirrors and Toppers, went through the Scottish Youth Squad system and got the opportunity to start Wayfarer sailing at the Nationals in 1983 (see photo by Uncle Al above).  I met Julian Redman in 1985 and crewed for him at area championships and went to the Worlds in 1986, raced against Ian Port.  Teamed up with Clin Taylor for the Nationals and Danish Worlds in 1989.  Then teamed up with Ian Port and sailed Wayfarers and other boats with Ian for the last fifteen years. The last seven years I have lived in Scotland, so campaigning has been more difficult due to the distance.  In Scotland I sail an RS400 and Contender and after the Worlds I am going straight back to take part in the RS400 Nationals.
When not sailing: Came out of university with a joint honours in botany and zoology.  On the death of my father my brother and I took over his firm, altering the emphasis from industrial moulding to specialised boat building.
When not sailing: Trained as a boat builder, worked as such from age 16 to 34.  Built 80' North Sea fishing boats all the way down to Wayfarers.  Worked for Ian for a couple of years before returning to Scotland where I joined the family firm of property factors with my brother.
Family: Married to Jane. We met at Hayling Island Sailing Club, as did her parents.  Have recently acquired two kittens, much to Kevan's annoyance! (he is alergic to cats). Family: Married to  a very patient and understanding wife, Lynn, who puts up with my absence.  Three boys, Ben(13) hockey and football, Murray(11) famous for being born during the 1992 Worlds at HISC, and Callum(10) following his dad into sailing and DIY.
