Hello Al,

Did anyone inform you of Alan Phillips' passing?  He died 11th August 2008 after suffering from cancer and complications from that.  He was the cruising secretary of the Canadian Wayfarer Association for a number of years and Don and I enjoyed the time we spent with Alan and Joy.

The last time Alan wrote was back in June to acknowledge my sending a copy of Sheela Basrur's obit from the Globe and Mail.  At that time he said 'As regards ourselves, we continue to jog along, gradually getting slower and slower, as befits our age, and without dramatic events. We remain very happy in the community here. Joy gets to know everybody, and everyone enjoys talking to her.'

When I forwarded the news of Alan's passing to the family, Connie wrote back with the following - go to the following website to read his obit. http://pgs.ca/?page_id=556   Alan was a member of Physicians for Global Survival and actively participated in the organization until his passing.

Anyone wanting to write to Joy can contact her at

All the best,
