Monday's sail:  The day's plan was to sail a giant U: south from the Heegerwal across the east end of the Heegermeer into the canal that leads to Woudsend and the Slotermeer after that. We continued south across the Slotermeer and on into the canal to Sloten, an ancient, well preserved town that would be our lunch stop. After lunch, we did one final little sail south before turning east towards the Prinses Margrietkanaal and the start of our long northward leg towards the mother ships which would meet us at Langweer at the west end of the lake called Langwarder Wielen.   - click here for larger image

Leg 1.1 of the week's tour: A nice little breeze out of the SSW let us relaxedly reach across the Heegermeer to gently warm us up for the challenges ahead: the patchy headwinds and busy holiday traffic of the canal to Woudsend where we would "do" our first bridge.
