Hi Cruisers!

I applaud you all as you launch into your adventure on the 5th Annual Chesapeake Cruise!   The days of sailing in the beautiful waters of the Chesapeake area will undoubtedly spawn some wonderful stories.  I invite all of you to consider writing an article for the SKIMMER, the newsletter of the USWA.    As a guideline, we welcome a one to two page article (this translates to 1,500-3,00 words) and of course photos enhance the contribution.

Because, a June issue is planned, I am hoping for a timely response from at least one participant.   Gary, will this be you?  Or will you pass this off to another?

The large of number of participants in this event will hopefully result in several articles on various aspects of the cruise.  And thus be great reading in future issues.  And I ditto Dick’s encouragement to the female sailors in the group to share their views of the cruise.   An article doesn’t have to detail every day of the cruise.   Think outside the box.  Write about what interest you  most.   Preparing for the trip, expectations vs real experiences, highlights of the cruise, or low times of the cruise, most beautiful scenes,  funniest incidents, the food: most memorable and best forgotten,  sleeping on a Wayfarer,  dealing with the unexpected, etc, etc, etc.

Enjoy your cruise, share your experiences!  I hope to hear from you!

Fair winds and safe harbors!

Linda

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to wish all of you another fantastic cruise this year.  Even though I am unable to join you this year in the flesh, I'll be doing so in spirit.

I shall look forward to the seeing pics and hearing the stories.

My best to all,
Brandon W3576

Hey everyone;

I just wanted to say that I had a great time sailing with all of you.  Our friday sail took us to Watts Island which was beautiful as always, and then on to Crisfield.  The Watts-Crisfield leg had some challenges when the wind died and we roasted in the sun and rowed for a while before the winds returned.  Jeff and Fran graciously offered to tow us back in with the motor but just as they arrived to tow the winds came up. We sailed into Crisfield just in time to get packed up and avoid the showers.  I hope everyone else in the group had nice sails back to Crisfield and enjoyed their time on this cruise as much as I did.  It was great to make new friends and I hope to see everyone again on other Wayfarer events.

Hi Uncle Al;

Don't forget to mention that Steve Roney came up with a name for the Dr. Pepper/Mount gay rum drink "The Gay Doctor". If you remember, it was the night you were tending bar aboard "Shades" and ran out of the Goslings.

Howdy (Okie for hello)

Just wanted to let everyone know that Cathy and I had a wonderful time on the cruise.  I must say it was a learning experience.  But I must say the best part of the experience was meeting each of you.  I can not speak for the other new comers but we felt welcomed and enjoyed ourselves very much.  We learned a lot on the trip.  We look forward to meeting everyone again.

Welcome back Chesapeake Cruisers!

Welcome back to all the Chesapeake Cruisers!  It was reassuring to read Chuck's email this week after the drought week of no electronic messages about the Chessie Cruise.  I hope everyone will echo Chuck's words about a successful cruise and a wonderful week among great folks!  I must say I missed providing the mother ship OSPREY this year and hope it can happen again...

Thanks for helping out!

Linda

Beautiful pictures. Kit. I would just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the many kindnesses you all showed Fran and myself on our first ever sailing cruise. We had a fantastic time and it was a real pleasure meeting all of you. Hope to see many of you again (and perhaps some new faces) on Parry Sound in August...can't wait!

I posted a few pictures of the cruise to: (extinct??)   http://s795.photobucket.com/albums/yy238/chuckjchow/Chesapeake%20Cruise%202010/

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. Thanks again for a wonderful time.

Fair Winds,
Jeff

Uncle Al,

I wrote up the attached article for the USWA Skimmer.  You may put it up on your website if you think it would be appropriate.  Great cruise and glad to see you again after a long time.  Looking forward to Kilbear.

Picture files to follow.

Gary,

Thanks for the story, it's great. Things here have been pretty wild since I got back.  I was expecting a lazy summer looking for teaching jobs, hanging out with my kids, and working around the house.  Instead, I've been working on a contract full time at the place where I used to work and we've had to scramble a bit to get daycare and summer camps lined up for the kids.

I also have fallen behind a bit as it seems that I got Lyme disease on our adventure.  I had four tick bites at the top of my butt that I hadn't noticed until I got back home.  I had long pants, a hat, and long sleeved on during the "tick day", so I only really checked my neck, arms, and legs.  I think they got me (based on the location of the bites) when I went to the latrine!  Bummer!  (Ha Ha).  Anyways, a couple of weeks after I got back, the symptoms really came on and I went to the doctor.  A two week course of antibiotics had me feeling great within 3 or 4 days.  When the two weeks ran out, I started getting symptoms again a few days later so I'm back on antibiotics as of Thursday.  Hopefully things will get back on track this time.

I have been sailing my boat a little bit, but mostly I have been racing on the keel boat I crew on (a C&C 25).  The last three days have been a regional keel boat regatta called EYC, so I have been bobbing around the water and racing about 8 hours a day.  It's been great (although once the Lyme symptoms starting coming back, I have had to have little naps below decks between races).

I really enjoyed reading the article you wrote for the SKIMMER.  It was a really great trip.  I never had any GI issues when I came back, so I don't think it was the water in the lagoon, but who knows?

Have a great time at the cruise in August.  I'll be thinking of you guys as I am adventuring around western Canada with my family.

Hope things are well with everyone there,

-Steve

Thanks, Al!! We had a fantastic time down there and I look at the pictures and read the reports over and over. I hope we get to do it again soon. BTW, congratulations on your win at Mississauga. I heard your throw-out race was a 1st place finish!!! Total domination!!

Best Always,
Jeff Kirk
