World Championships 2010
Dear Ralph, Poul and Uncle Al,
I am in preliminary negotiations with the Weymouth and
Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) about holding the 2010 Worlds
based upon their facilityduring the 3rd week of July. I have had a look
at the guidelines and attach
a copy
that I have looked at and fiddled with (inserting a thought that races
should perhaps be of a certain duration) and I attach a draft programme that I
would appreciate your comments on. I would like to go for 9 races
as a target and my one main concern at the moment is whether I have
allowed enough time for scrutineering. To an extent it depends on
when I can get into the WPNSA on the Friday at the beginning (without
it costing much more) and also how much extra it costs to have the
Saturday at the end (if anything)... I would like to start the race
programme on the Monday morning so I wouldn't want the Practice Race to
be on the Monday, so it may be, if we have big numbers, that I start
the scrutineering on the Friday afternoon at the very beginning, trying
to crack as many early arrivals as possible.
For those who don't know Weymouth I have included a photo of Weymouth harbour (taken from Portland Bill) showing Chesil Beach and the harbour. The WPNSA is a large building complex on the near side of the harbour. racing can be either "in the harbour" in very strong winds or "in Weymouth Bay" for winds up to Force 6. I have forwarded the draft
programme to Weymouth to get
their initial steer on costs, but so far all the feedback is good and
they can accommodate the dates that I have requested.
Your comments would be appreciated.
Best wishes,
Mike McKechnie

Hi, Mike:
Everything
looks excellent. Will anyone mind if I post all or part of the email
below to start the publicity ball rolling? Love the pictures!
Regarding item
#8 of the Guidelines, perhaps we should remove the last bit (in
brackets) about competitors being expected to use their own sails. I
gather that it is now a major hassle to bring rolled up sails with you
when you fly. I know Kit Wallace used borrowed sails last year, and I
would expect/hope to do the same in 2010. Bringing a spinnaker with you
is easy enough, so the SI's might make allowances for different main
and spi numbers?
Keep up the
good work, and do keep me posted.
Best regards,
Uncle Al (W3854)
